The National Show Horse is a breed that was developed in 1982 in America.
It is a cross between the AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HORSE and the ARABIAN HORSE.
A National Show Horse (NSH) must be at least 25% Arabian, but less than 100%. The remaining blood (bewteen 1 and 75%) can only be American Saddlebred - no other blood is allowed.
A Registry for National Show Horses in the UK was set up in 1996 by Anne Hawke, when she imported the spotted Saddlebred, stallion PREMIER COLOR, to cross on her Arabian mares.
This registry was handed over to the UNITED SADDLEBRED ASSOCIATION in June 1997, who still run it today.
A lot of NSHs in the UK are only known as Partbred Arabs, their Saddlebred breeding seemingly overlooked. They are all eligible for registration with the United Saddlebred Association (see link above) on their NSH Registry. Once the "Saddlebred" bit is verified they can show in lots of Saddlebred and American breed classes.
Many NSH in the UK are also pinto's (a colour that is allowed in the Saddlebred purebred registry, but not the Arabian one).
Our Championship Show will be on 4th May 2008 at Moreton Morrell. Confirmed judge is Martin Pienaar (South Africa). Lots of new classes added - breed classes for Saddlebreds (of course!) Morgans, Appaloosa's, Paso Fino & Iberians, colour classes for Skewbalds, Piebalds and Palomino's and many open breed in hand and performance classes. FREE lunch time display by John Lyons certified Natural Horsemanship Trainer onboard his Rocky Mountain Horses.
